Ode In Memory Of Elizabeth Taylor

Glittering lights extinguished and we’re left with the dark,
As Dame Elizabeth Taylor died on the 23rd of March.
She was a veritable legend, an icon, a gem;
Celebrated worldwide, loved by ladies and men.

Born on February the 27th, in 1932
Becoming a Hollywood Great was what she was destined to do.
From British beginnings, America beckoned
And she became a force with whom to be reckoned.

Along with her career, she had a rich family life;
She gave the world 4 children and was eight-times a wife.
10 great-grandchildren followed after she turned 39
And our thoughts go to her family at this difficult time.

Actress and mother,grandmother, wife and friend;
How sad this lady’s life has now come to an end.
Elizabeth Taylor was the epitome of fame
And the world now unites to say goodbye to the Dame.

International Women’s Day | A Poem

Today is a celebration for women all around the world;
Ladies who’ve dared to dream big, ever since they were little girls.
For the diversity and talents that lie within a feminine heart;
For the courage and determination that prevents us falling apart.

We can raise families and build businesses and be proud of all we’ve achieved
Where once over, visions of that scale, could never have been believed.
Ladies, stand up and be counted, smile at how far we have come
And cherish every single day, whether daughter, wife, or mum.

Don’t let anybody tell you that there are set paths for you to follow
As a little girl with a dream, is an inspiring woman of tomorrow.
So celebrate all women, and acknowledge the great things they do
And tell a lady close to your heart, just how much she means to you.

    The Petrol Prices | A Poem

    Stop! This needs discussion;
    It’s about the petrol prices.
    They’re practically astronomical;
    We’re heading towards a crisis.

    It doesn’t seem that long ago
    A litre was less than a pound.
    It’s now somewhere around extortion;
    The price we pay to get around.

    The local effects are scary
    And the national ones greater still
    Pretty soon we’ll all need mortgages
    To foot our petrol bills.

    But seriously, what matters
    As the fuel prices soar ever higher,
    It’s added pressure to our budgets
    When the economy’s already dire.

    The cost of goods will have to rise
    To factor in the fuel.
    Say goodbye to exotic luxuries
    And hello to bread and gruel.

    We can all make little adjustments
    To try to reduce our spends
    Perhaps by combining mini journeys,
    Accelerating gently, and anticipating the bends.

    So try to maximise fuel economy
    To minimise the hit to your bank
    And drive slowly when visiting the petrol pump;
    Brace yourself to fill up your tank!

    Converse About The Verse

    So tell me how you’re finding it!
    Is your wallet starting to hurt?
    Cheekily I’ll say ‘I’m alright Jack’;
    It’s good not having to drive to work!

    Your First Kiss

    The air feels charged with energy,
    You know the moment’s near.
    Complete exhilaration
    Makes intentions felt and clear.

    A quickening of your heart beat,
    Desire to feel that touch.
    Shallow breaths ignite you;
    You want this oh so much.

    You move a little closer,
    Your eyelids semi-closed.
    A flutter of your lashes
    And your longing is exposed.

    And then at last it happens.
    Best described as bliss;
    An electrical engagement – also known as….
    Your first kiss.

      Love And Prayers

      My thoughts go out today, to a highly regarded lady
      As the world sends condolences on the loss of her baby.

      A newly budding flower, that was just about to bloom;
      A tiny precious soul that was taken away too soon.

      Losing a child is something no one should have to bear
      And to all those affected, I send my love and prayers.

      The Greatest Love Of All Time

      There are moments in my life that I will remember, because you were there.
      There are moments in my life when I feel I need you more than air.
      There are moments in my life that I have to tell you how much I care.
      And for us, those moments never shall decline.

      There were times that I felt my heart could not contain such a feeling.
      One tiny glance or touch was enough to set me reeling.
      I didn’t just walk on air, I was dancing on the ceiling.
      Oh how glad I am to say that you are mine.

      For years it will be me and you, and that’s the way it should be
      For nobody fits as nicely, as you slot together with me
      And with the depth of our love, together we are truly free.
      This is absolutely the greatest love of all time.

        No More Knife Crime – A Poem

        This is a poem I wrote a couple of years ago, inspired by the tragic story of Ben Kinsella. His sister Brooke has today made progress with her campaign to reduce youth and knife crime.

        No More Knife Crime – A Poem

        Solid life was shattered
        With the twist of a manic blade.
        The debt that was created
        Could never be repaid.

        Extinguished, like a sooty fire
        This life stopped in its tracks.
        How cowardly could one man be
        To stab him in the back.

        Frantically repeated,
        11 times or more.
        This poor soul had done nothing
        And now exists no more.

        If only he had stayed away
        Or been at home that night
        Then he woud still be here today;
        Not sacrificed for a fight.

        The void is like a chasm
        With depths unlike any other.
        The world is missing a young man
        And a girl has lost her brother.

        But this fight isn’t over.
        The war goes on and on.
        Society is twisted
        And everything is wrong.

        We should all live together
        Without the fear of crime.
        I hope that it might happen
        Within my own lifetime.

        If not, then for my children
        Let knife crime fail and cease.
        Only then will the fight be over
        And society shall feel the release.

        Free to let our children
        Explore this playgroud we’ve created;
        Knowing nothing but love and peace.
        A victory to be celebrated!
