I took my pen.
I drew you out.
I got you wrong.
I rubbed you out.
I honed my craft.
I tried again.
I failed with mice
And then with men
And then with landscapes
Laced with trees.
Where others seemed to draw with ease
My lines were sloppy,
Your essence greyed,

Listen for the positive,
The voice that talks you down.
The one who tells you that they care;
That they like you around.
And when you’re standing on the ledge,
They’re waiting in the wings
Reminding you that life is full
Of hope and other things.

Memories Are Funny Things
Memories are funny things.
You hear your favourite singer sing
And all at once, that voice is stored,
You visit towns, you see the sights,
You feel the heat, you see the light
And that becomes a picture, saved;
A snapshot of a happy day.
And all you ever need to do
Is think about that perfect view
And all at once, you’re there once more
Seeing it as you previously saw.
A scent or sound can do the same.
A hint, and whoosh, you’re back again.
You’re in the room, you’re with the guy,
No matter how much time’s passed by.
And if you listen close enough
The voices of the ones you love
Will stay inside your clever mind
For you to recall, anytime!
So soak up life and all it brings
Cos memories are funny things.
They’re weaved from all you see or do.
Make them good. It’s up to you.
Memories are funny things is a short poem by English poet, Ms Moem.
We begin not by wanting to exist,
but by chance.
A complex dance of nature.
Nurtured. Take your
talk of fate and seek to make
more of your turn.
Learn what makes you tick
because you don’t have to stick
with what is presented;
pretending it’s your thing when it’s not.
You’ve got the power and it’s within you.
Win your own definition of success
and don’t settle for less, as giving up
only means you ensure that it will never happen.
Break the pattern.
If chance brought you here, you have nothing to fear
So take a chance, and never stop swimming.
By wanting not just to exist, we begin.

Hold My Hand, My Daughter
Hold my hand, my daughter,
Let me show you the way,
To live and to love,
To work and to play,
To dream and imagine,
To chill and to grow;
I’ll be with you, dear daughter,
No matter where you go.
Hold my hand, my daughter
And let us go explore.
Let us read epic stories
And then live a few more.
Let us spend time with family
As well as with each other.
I couldn’t be more proud
To say that I am your mother.
So hold my hand, my daughter,
And thanks for making me your mum.
You are my universe;
My earth, moon and sun.

Her whole life’s been a battle.
Her face is hard as stone
But inside, there’s a garden,
Just waiting to be sown.
She’s looking for a gardener
To give it TLC
And to bring out all the colours
No-one ever gets to see.
Gardener Wanted is a short poem about life by Ms Moem.
I am every star and butterfly.
I’m rainbows painted in the sky.
I am every memory you recall.
I am comfort. That is all.

Dare To Self-Care
Speak kindly to your inner self,
Don’t take your demons’ view.
You are you, and no-one else
Will lead the life you do.
Kill your inner critic
And silence all his chatter.
Then write this truth inside your brain;
“I’m worth it & I matter.”
Dare To Self-Care is a short affirmative poem about confidence and self-care by English poet Ms Moem.
