Imagine If The Internet Didn’t Exist

Imagine if the internet didn’t exist. I was sitting streaming content from youtube whilst looking through my poetry orders and chatting to my friends online, and I suddenly thought “what if the internet didn’t exist?”.
It is safe to say my life would be virtually unrecognisable if it didn’t.

I have made some amazing friends, some of whom I have spoken to daily for well over a decade, thanks to the brilliant interwebs. I started my own business because of the internet. I listen to greater range of music because the internet makes it so accessible.
I am inspired daily by the people around me because of the internet. I was able to start sharing my poetry purely because of the internet.

In fact, just written down it all sounds rather basic, and doesn’t capture just how greatly I value the internet. But it enhances my life in so many ways.
I can probably say 100% I would not be doing what I do now if it wasn’t for Tim Berners Lee and his vision for the World Wide Web.

That’s not to say that I think it is infallible though. I am part of the last generation to be born in a non-digital, not connected world. My children are all digital natives. They will never know a time that they haven’t been able to find anything they wanted to know at the click of a mouse. Their lives will be played out in a digital setting. And that is kind of scary because I don’t think we fully appreciate yet the legacy of a life lived online.

However for now I am going to focus on the positives. And there are so many of those. What would be different in your life without the internet?

What Kind Of Friend Are You?

Friends – A Poem by Ms Moem

From the day life starts until it ends
We have the chance to make lots of friends.
They’re dotted all about life’s line
To chatter to, to pass the time
To show support, to be a mate
To make sure that you celebrate
The milestones you have reached and passed
To hold your hand as you breathe your last.
There’s friends who you’d do anything for
Who never ask for anything more
Than companionship and fun and laughter;
No need to wonder what they’re after.
They’re there to listen when you’re in need
They offer advice and you take heed
Because you know their intentions are good
And they’d always help you if they could.
Then there are friends who take, take, take
And though, not bad, they seem to make
A mountain of the smallest matters;
Those friendships seem to end in tatters.
The ones who when your problems mount
Just disappear, and you can’t count
On them at all, not necessarily because they’re mean
But rather because it’s just the way they’ve always been.

Spending time with friends is a great thing to do
You find them near, you find them far
You’re not responsible for how other’s are
But what kind of friend are you?

Music Monday 4

This week I have been listening to some new singalong faves
The first is Flatline by MKS (aka the original Sugababes)

For Music Monday part 4, track number 2
Is Alicia Keys with If I Ain’t Got You.

Track number three has got a killer beat
It’s ‘They Don’t Care About Us’ from the man with the moonwalking feet!

The next is more melodic and I think it is an absolute delight!
It’s Mr Peter Andre with Perfect Night.

This is the last of today’s Music Monday picks for you!
It’s Rihanna with Te Amo – what have you been listening to?

A Poem Inspired By You Are Old Father William

This is a poem I wrote inspired by the classic poem ‘You Are Old Father William’ which featured in Alice in Wonderland.

My version of this famous poem is called ‘You Are Old Mother Dearest’.

You Are Old Mother Dearest

“You are old mother dearest,” my daughter said
“It’s a lifetime since you were at school.
And yet you can help with all homework I’m set
What makes you so wise and so cool?”

“In my youth,” I replied to my little girl
“My teachers would teach us by rote.
We’d recite our times tables, leaving us more than able
And even now I know Shakespeare’s greatest quotes.”

“You are old mother dearest, as I think I just said
And you know nothing of Kanye or Drake.
Yet when Kylie’s on you rush, to the mirror with a hairbrush
At your age, is that a wise action to take?”

“In my youth,” I said wistfully to my little girl
“An album was a cherished possession
So when I hear Miss Minogue, back to my youth I go
And it’s wonderful moment of regression.”

“You are old mother dearest, and the times have moved on
It seems style wasn’t something you were taught.
You’re no longer twenty two, nothing looks fashionable on you
And don’t you think that your skirt is a touch short?”

“In my youth,” I said dryly to my cheeky girl
“These legs were once a source of attraction
So while my face is heading south, I’ll keep getting my legs out
If only to serve as somewhat of a distraction.”

“You are old mother dearest,” my daughter went on
“And you wouldn’t know what passes for hot.
Yet you enthuse on the perfection of the boys in One Direction
Don’t you know you’re too old for that lot?”

“I have answered three questions, you cheeky young imp”
I said swiftly, “and now I am done!
You forget one day you, will be old like me too
And it’s surprising how quick that day comes!”

Congratulations To The Duke & Duchess Of Cambridge
And Welcome To The World Baby Cambridge | A Poem

A brand new life has officially begun
As the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have welcomed a son.
HRH Prince of Cambridge was sent to fill their lives with joy
And he becomes 3rd in line to the throne, this precious little boy.

His whole life will be geared towards becoming our King
But for now, he’s brand new, and I wish him one thing
That he can grow up in a family that is contented & happy
Who are overcome with pride for their little prince in his nappy.

His name not yet announced, he was born at 4.24
And I am absolutely certain he is all that they wished for.
So congratulations Kate and Will and enjoy your little lad
And cherish your babymoon now you’ve become a Mum and Dad.

Duchess Of Cambridge Is In Labour | Waiting For News

The Duchess of Cambridge is in labour.
The Royal Baby is on the way.
We’re all just waiting for news
And hoping the baby arrives safely today!

So I created this animation
As I imagine there is a lot of pacing
And as the Royal baby makes it’s entrance
What a grand life, he or she, is facing!
